End Your Child's Bedwetting Now!
The enuretic (bedwetter) sleeps extremely deep and cannot awaken to their bladder signal. It is also possible for the bedwetter to to get into such an extreme deep sleep that they wet before the bladder fills. This can result in multiple wettings per night. This is also why liquids have very little, if anything, to do with bedwetting.
Would it surprise you to know that there is a solution to bedwetting that involves
- NO RESTRICTION OF FLUIDS
- NO DRUGS
- NO ALARM SYSTEMS (that ring AFTER the fact and cost anywhere from $65 to $3,000)
Bedwetting is very difficult for a child or adult. It restricts their activities because they fear discovery and embarrassment. Many are wearing bedwetting underwear and they know this is not normal.
Outgrowing Bedwetting
Everyone is hoping and waiting for the bedwetter to "outgrow" the problem. Unfortunately no one tells you when that will be, nor can they predict the emotional effects caused while the waiting continues. In reality they may never outgrow bedwetting. You may not hear about the teenage wetter because by that time they have given up on ever being dry and will forego sleepovers or scouting. Why not deal with the bedwetting now and give your child a much happier childhood? How much money are going to spend keeping your child in clean bedding over the next few years?
Diaper Type Underwear or Diapering: This is one of many bedwetting solutions and it may be a convienent way for parents to keep the bed dry, but it is not a very good option for the bedwetter. They are well aware that this is not normal attire for someone their age. The bedwetting is an emotional event every bedwetter has to deal with. The addition of infantile apparel compounds their problem.
Obstacles In Life Due to Bedwetting
- Bedwetters learn to cope with social situations by becoming secretive and "creatively untruthful". Discovery by others is a constant fear of bedwetters. This can results in teasing and ridicule.
- The longer bedwetting persist, the greater the chance that self image will suffer or be affected.
- Self confidence can begin to erode. It is hard to face the fact that a simple bodily function can not be controlled. Constant defeat can affect anyone. It is just a matter of time. Spending the night with friends can be challenging. Fear of discovery restricts many children from developing a normal social life. All kids like to spend the night with other children. Obviously, this is a problem for the bedwetter. Discovery would be devestating. It's either don't go or secretly put on bedwetting underwear. Neither choice is appealing to the child or teenager.
- Scouting and camping activities with peers. This is emotionally trying for the parent as well as the child. We hurt when our children hurt and we want them to experience all of life's possibilities.
- If the bedwetter has a younger sibling who does not wet, this puts additional stress on the child. They may start to ask, "What's wrong with me?". The use of a bedwetting alarm (either a pad or attached to underwear ) usually ends up being ineffective in the long run. Studies over the past 25-30 years indicate some favorable results initially, but the relapse rate varies between 70%-90%. In other words, when the alarm is removed, the enuretic returns to bedwetting because they still have the sleep disorder. There are a few organizations that offer a training program along with the alarm. Their results are better and have a much lower relapse rate. This is not a bad choice for you as a parent if you can afford $1,500-$3,000.
The Bedwetting Sleep
The extreme deep sleep that causes the bedwetting is not a restful or rejuvenating sleep. Many bedwetters still feel tired even after getting 8 to 10 hours of sleep. This is caused by extended periods of time in the deep delta stage. This type of sleep can also cause the child to lose focus during school. Anyone who experienced a bad nights sleep can attest to the effect on their next day's productivity. Imagine your bedwetting child going through this on a constant basis. This makes concentration difficult and therefore grades may suffer. A high percentage of bedwetters are diagnosed AD/HD.
Other Current "Solutions"
Drugs & Restrictions: The medical community has been mostly ineffective in their attempts to cure bedwetting. Their advice includes:
- Let the child out grow it
-
Restrict liquids
-
Get the child up during the night
-
Try this particular drug (usually DDAVP or Imipramine).
Let the child out grow it - Hoping or waiting for the child to "outgrow" the problem is insensitive and avoids the issue. The longer the child lives with bedwetting, the more damage it can do to their self-image. They fear discovery and it restricts their activities and social development. There are millions of teens and adults still waiting to "outgrow" bedwetting.
Restricting liquids - This option is ineffective because the liquid in-take is not a factor in bedwetting. If it were, then everyone would have this problem. Let's think about this. You do not have to restrict your liquids to stay dry. You either wake-up to the bladder signal or you simply "hold it" all night.
Get the child up during the night - This option is very frustrating for both parent and child. The wetting may occur before you get to the child or they may wet again even though you got them up and had them void. This is because they can wet before the bladder fills. Infact, they may not remember the parent getting them up. Again, this is a result of the abnormal sleep..
*Bladder size is not very relevant to bedwetting. The child has the same bladder when they sleep as they do when they are awake. If they have normal daytime control, the same should apply during sleep. Also, be aware that its not uncommon for the children to "spot" themselves during play or activities when they don't want to stop or take time to go to the bathroom.
Drugs - Medications that are commonly prescribed for bedwetting do not have an impressive effective rate. Sometimes they work while the child is taking the drug, but relapses occur when the drug is discontinued. Most parents are not prone to adminstering drugs to their child.
